Global Pandemics by Size

The only problem with this one of course is that they use the term "virus" to mean "pathogen". Just ignore the "virus" bit- plague isn't caused by a virus.

Gonorrhoea & Syphilis rates in the US, by state 1984-2008

  • Chlamydia was not chosen because interestingly its rate is similar throughout the US
  • The southeast has the most issues
  • DC got major issues

Breast Cancer - Invasive Ductal Carcinoma of No Special Type

Immunohistochemistry and phenotypes:

Idc_of_nst

  • Luminal A: generally more favourable prognosis; hormone receptor positive therefore also sensitive to tamoxifen, aromatase inhibitors and other hormonal treatments
  • Luminal B: not quite as good as Luminal A; treatable with both Herceptin and hormonal treatments
  • HER2+ only: most aggressive phenotype- however can be treated with Herceptin (transtuzumab), a HER2 monoclonal antibody
  • Basal-like: a subset of "triple negative" (ie oestrogen & progesterone receptor negative and HER2 negative) cancers. Since the advent of Herceptin, prognosis is worse than for HER2+ tumours.
